Go home, Pete.

Buttigieg calls out Democrats for playing "identity politics": "He drew a direct line between the obstacles faced by a black, trans woman excluded by mainstream society and an out-of-work auto worker excluded by the new economy."

This is a big tell on Mayor Pete’s view of the world. Identity politics are only “divisive” if you don’t think marginalized communities have unique and underrepresented needs or issues. If you do, then identity politics aren’t divisive—they’re *inclusive*.
So the transcript is more “nuanced,” but it reads as a testament to having things both ways. When you talk about a “crisis of belonging” without deeply interrogating what we’re all trying to belong to, the term identity politics does become a buzzword.
White men automatically “belong” to America, because that’s who has been centered throughout American history. But the litany of other identities that Buttigieg mentions don’t.
And maybe the question shouldn’t be “how do we ensure that we include these identities in a white male dominant America?” but “how do we reformat America to not be white male normative?”

Which brings up the question of the 2020 elections, and our array of qualified Dem nominees.
So I’m just going to leave a few things right here.

The first is this:
