Invoking panic for the sake of performativity is frustrating because it often erases the people who have been doin the work for A WHILE and warps what these issues actually look like
In regards to HB 481, it’s sad seeing people invoke panic without acknowledging the coalition in GA that has been organizing since before the bill even hit the floor
Handmaid’s Tale references are not only not accurate but expands an issue that people feel is undefeatable. Abortion is still legal in GA.
Orgs are on the ground. Orgs are in the courts. Orgs are continuing outreach to people with a uterus in GA who deserve bodily autonomy
This notion that this movement is led by white women is a lie, too. @ARC_Southeast ED is a Black woman. @SisterSong_WOC ED is a Black woman. @WomenEngaged ED is a Black woman. @napawf_atl is Asian led. I could go on.
Also, the fact this movement centers cisgender women only is false and ignores @URGE_org and @SPARKRJNOW
Instead of performing on the timeline, slide some coin to these orgs. Amplify their efforts. Critique the erasure that you see
Oh and for young folx, reach out to some of these orgs and see what you can do. It’s your future too. The movement isn’t at capacity
