There's been so much chat about citizens' assemblies and deliberative democracy swirling about, that I took some time out to think through what's needed now. Here are my thoughts - in this blog rebeccawillis.co.uk/citizens-assem… and thread below...1/
The blog goes into the background but to cut straight to it, I think what's needed is:

1) a national Citizen's Assembly, formally commissioned by Parliament - and not a one-off, but a regular process, tied in to CC Act budgeting processes and @theCCCuk reports.2/
2) support for local areas - who will want to design processes that are locally relevant, but would benefit from access to a widely-agreed set of 'core principles' for deliberation, and a central pool of resources and expertise; and 3/
3) more deliberation embedded in policymaking and research - as part of a more inclusive politics.

Deliberation isn't a magic bullet, but it certainly needs to be part of the new climate politics. 4/
