Republicans coming out against the Equality Act, which expands language in existing civil rights laws to include protections for LGBT/ women, have objected to its passage almost entirely on the premise it will destroy women's sports.
Rep Katie Hill says this isnt about GOP caring about fairness for women in sports. It's about fear mongering against transwomen.
I dont like to speak for others but I'm pretty sure most women and LGBTQ+ would appreciate that same energy from GOP for things like, oh, IDK, a right to one's own body.

Oh, there was much to be said about Mr. Calk during the Manafort trial.
I remember this line well from an email authored by Calk re: one of Manafort's loans:
“I look to your cleverness to understand the underwriting."

From my trial coverage: In an email, Manafort requested Dennis Raico, former senior vice president at Federal Savings Bank, to provide him with a copy of Calk’s resume. Prosecutors asked why the request was made.

“He wanted to serve in the Trump administration,” Racio replied.
“Were you often asked to pass messages between Mr. Manafort and Mr. Calk?”
Racio said he was and that it frequently made him “uncomfortable.”

When Treasury Secy Mnuchin was asked if he thought the American people had a right to know what is in Trump's tax returns, he said: “No, I don’t. Presidents are not required to turn them over. The American people knew he didn’t release them before they voted for him."

Mnuchin says his refusal to comply with the request for Trump's tax returns is based on "legal advice given to him by the Department of Justice' and that he has been advised *if * he turned them over, *he* would be acting unlawfully.

What does the Equality Act do? It updates the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the list of protected characteristics. But McCarthy is exactly right about its effects.
Religious liberty would suffer greatly. For example, “The Equality Act would force employers to pay for sex ‘reassignment’ procedures in their health insurance plans, and require medical professionals to perform them.”

Booker is so correct on this take. Amendment 1 and Prop 8 were extremely painful for #LGBT people. We woke up the next day looked around and forever wondered who voted for us, who against. The majority should never never vote on minority rights.

Yes, I saw the story. The only thing I’m going to say tonight is: The government often has tried to write queer people out of the law. That has never succeeded at driving queer people out of existence — a distinction that has, at times, made all the difference in the world.
Also: Anti-transgender actions have been the norm from this admin since nearly day one, and anti-trans activists have gotten jobs throughout the agencies, so there is little surprise that such a draft memo exists and that someone is pushing it. From June: buzzfeed.com/dominicholden/…
Finally: There is much left unanswered and unaddressed in the story — so a lot more still needs to be reported out before it’s clear to me what’s actually going on here in this particular instance or what’s going to happen.

I will stand with black women till my last breath.
If you do NOT stand with black women, ask yourself why.
As a #lesbian, I hope people will stand with/for me.
They don't always, because being an ally takes work.
But I welcome allies, no matter how long it takes folks to get there.
We must believe in people being able to #change.
None of us has perfect politics nor personal lives.
Every day people change.
People who were racists realize they were wrong.
Men who were misogynists realize women are people.
Homophobes realize they were wrong.

We all have the power to realize we have been wrong and to change.
Embrace change.
It's how we heal the world.
