I spent the last year debunking one insane theory after another claiming Brexit would make the UK wealthier.

I don't know if this tweet means they've run out of theories, or just Etonian chancers to spout them with unearned confidence.

Either way, fuck your gaslighting, Harry.
I mean for fuck's sake, Leave put an economic argument on the side of a bus and drove it around the country.

Are we supposed to pretend "350m for the NHS," "sunlit uplands," and "Singapore on the Thames" were all mass hallucinations?
You can (and I do) argue the Remain Campaign could have done a better job of communicating the economic implications of Brexit in a way that resonates with people (pro-tip: 15 year aggregate GDP growth projections ain't it.)

But to pretend Leave just accepted the premise...

2/ Let me be absolutely unequivocal: a WTO Brexit itself does NOTHING for the UK's ability to export anything to anyone (except temporarily tank the pound).

Nothing.

Not. One. Thing.
3/ A WTO Brexit pulls the UK out of the most advanced trade agreement in history and dozens of other trade agreements.

The UK was trading with the EU and others on one set of rules, it will now be trading on another, far shittier set. That is fact. Not in dispute.

What I read on human rights in China deeply troubles me. Yet I don't think the US Administration has even implied human rights violations are a cause of its tariffs, or that improving them would see those tariffs removed.

They therefore can't be offered as justification. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I can definitely see why many commentators consider confronting China to be an imperative.

However, that does not mean one simply gets to transpose their personal agendas (however worthy) onto the Trump administration.

Trump told you what he cares about, and it's not Uighurs.
"But Dmitry, China is being confronted that's what matters here."

No it isn't.

Confrontation in and of itself doesn't achieve anything on the things you care about, unless it encourages a change in Chinese behavior. Here. on most issues, a change isn't even being asked for.

One of the bizarre notions of #Brexit voters is that paying x billion into EU to run the common market gives EU consumers a duty to buy British products rather than an opportunity to market UK exports.
This British delusion about how trade works is illustrated by Brexit voting idiots saying stuff like “we pay 40m for a trade deficit of 150m”. They confuse foreign trade with buying things abroad. Producing and marketing stuff that foreign consumers actually want is beyond them.
The same delusion is at work when British politicians mention “the ability to strike our own trade deals”. Leavers think that somehow all that is required is a Doctor’s note from a disgraced Defense Secretary and instantly trade starts flowing to those foreign far flung countries

So it is just few weeks to #Brexit and few in UK care or want to know how potentially awful it may be.

But I grew up in the Cold War, in the former colonies.

So let me tell you what it triggers!

Coming from a working class family, I'd always been Labour, whether in Germany or here in the UK didn't matter. Until I realised that @jeremycorbyn had done exactly what I'd been raging about concerning the prominent Brexit campaigners. /2
.@jeremycorbyn had been lying and @UKLabour did and still does nothing. There are still a lot of Labour MPs I consider decent, not to mention the over 80% of Labour members who also want a #PeoplesVote. I say decent on purpose because #Brexit is a deeply indecent concept. /3

Sometimes you find stories in the strangest ways.

Today I published an investigation into a DC think tank and its cofounder. It’s one insane turn after another.

But all started when I was added on a reply to an innocuous tweet. Thread...

Back in early March a guy I don’t know and don’t follow shared one of my stories. He complimented it, while also making a humorous drag of BuzzFeed. I jokingly replied. He replied. Cool.

But then this other account chimed in to laugh. Something strange happened after that.
The reply from the ArtOfTheHak account quickly racked up RTs and likes. I was puzzled why people would suddenly engage with a basic reply. I looked closer at the accounts and quickly saw they were amplifying a ton of his tweets, as well as the nonprofit think tank he cofounded.

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM
