Beware: rather long thread, sorry!

Last Saturday, I marched alongside 700 000 people for a #PeoplesVote with a Final Say and an option to remain. It was such an incredible experience that I was still smiling the next day. And now I joined the @LibDems /1
Coming from a working class family, I'd always been Labour, whether in Germany or here in the UK didn't matter. Until I realised that @jeremycorbyn had done exactly what I'd been raging about concerning the prominent Brexit campaigners. /2
.@jeremycorbyn had been lying and @UKLabour did and still does nothing. There are still a lot of Labour MPs I consider decent, not to mention the over 80% of Labour members who also want a #PeoplesVote. I say decent on purpose because #Brexit is a deeply indecent concept. /3
I won't go into everything that happened in the past 2.5 yrs. Only into the incidents of the past six days.

It started with this: I was one of the first to see it because @AcademyOfRock had tweeted on a thread, I was listed in. /4

To say I was deeply shocked would be an understatement. I still can't look at the pictures without feeling sick, without wanting to rage. Peter had gone to the #PeoplesVoteMarch, just like me, and knows that we had been peaceful, sombre, determined & still cheerful /5
But it wouldn't end there. The next moment of horror came when @BrexitStewart thought it's okay to call father or his hospitalised son a pathetic cretin. Because the son's family had decided to go to the march & had taken a few pics showing the family happily getting ready /6
I might have missed it, but so far I haven't heard of an apology, nor of any consequences. Outrage on the Remainer side, but the Leavers? They found all sorts of excuses. Apart from that? Business as usual. /7
And then there was of course @AndrewRosindell whose tweet labeled us as unpatriotic, undemocratic, bullies, alleging he'd been accosted. /8

But the national embarrassment didn't end here, of course. @SyedKamall, Tory leader in the @Europarl_EN, decided to get history 'slightly' wrong and make Nazi jibes at a German MEP, in the European Parliament no less. /9

I made my thoughts about his 'apology' very clear. You don't have to be German to be disgusted by @SyedKamall's comments. You only have to be a decent human being with a bit of knowledge in history. And I stand by what I said, his apology means nothing/10

Also, I had to listen to our govts inability or unwillingness to deliver what is its duty: to do what is best for this country and its citizens. In their opinion, it is to make us all poorer and the UK an international pariah that doesn't keep its promises. A Banana Republic /11
I won't of course neglect @jeremycorbyn's silence to even address the #PeoplesVoteMarch. It's day 6, and I still haven't heard anything from him. Have you?

But I've seen the relentless work of all those, like @WernerT_Man @csibike1 to name only two, to stop Brexit /12
I apologise to everyone I didn't mention. The list would be too long :)

But I would really like to thank @WernerT_Man here once again. He's no stake in our fight, other than the very real threat of the rise of the far-right all over Europe. /13
I'd been playing with the idea of joining @LibDems for some time. But having had my fingers burnt once, I was reluctant. There's the @TheGreenParty that has always been politically closer to me /14
but that's more of a German phenomenon, to do with the experiences I'd made while I still lived there. There are @Plaid_Cymru and @theSNP who also back a #PeoplesVote. but I live - sadly - in England. Besides, I live deep in Tory-land. @TheGreenParty understandably doesn't /15
and can't campaign in a constituency where they'd have no chance whatsoever. But what made me decide to join @LibDems was Vince Cable's meeting with @MichelBarnier.

After a week of never ending denials on both sides, @Conservatives and @UKLabour, /16

after I'd marched with 700 000 people at the #PeoplesVoteMarch, after all the insults *still* thrown at us, whilst one catastrophic news after another concerning Brexit is being published. I said I'd fight Brexit, and so I shall. One other way for me is joining @LibDems /17
I'm not so naive to think they aren't blameless for this disaster. They went into coalition with the Tories in 2010, after all, and backed the disastrous austerity measures that put us here in the first place. /18
But they're trying to right their wrongs. I'm also not so naive to think that any party will always represent my thoughts. But at the very fucking least, the @LibDems along with @Plaid_Cymru & @TheGreenParty & @theSNP see the national catastrophe that is Brexit /19
One last thing, I'm sure I've missed out on a lot of things. And I definitely left out all the people I have come into contact with over the last few months, but who have picked me up when I was down, may it be with a joke or simply sharing their stories with me. /21
You know who you are (if you're reading this - hopefully) and I thank you, you beautiful people.

And to the frontbenchers @UKLabour and @jeremycorbyn and the Lexiteers. I just used the old email they sent me when I'd left.
