A big crowd of Consevative MPs is still waiting outside the committee room where the 1922 is meeting. Very stuffy in the corridor. Some MPs swigging bottles of water.

Labour MEP John Howarth completely savages the party leadership's approach to the Euro elections in a pretty extraordinary letter to members

"Had Labour's high command set out to lose an election they could not have gone about it in a more convincing way"
7 hours or so until European elections results are expected to start coming in and the mood in Labour is pretty bleak

One Labour MEP says: "I know his [John Howarth's] experience was awful and he is preparing himself for the worst — as am I"

1) Pretty much OK with this.
Some thoughts
Brexit party took all of UKIP seats & some Conservative ones

27 progressive Rainbow alliance MEPs from actual parties against 29 part time chancers who will get bored after their 5 minutes in the Sun is good odds
2) I still think of Labour as a progressive party even if its leader is a stalinist throwback and surely these results will send a message to Labour High command - its time to pick a side and there is only one side for Labour
3) also, some good solid Pro EU Labour MEPs have been reelected

The Tory party will now eat itself, and BxP will inevitably get embroiled in the same scandals that UKIP did

Chief whip Julian Smith told by ERG that any “soft Brexit” agreement would damage party and damage TM personally.

MPs told him they won’t vote for any legislation that gives away £40bn Brexit bill without comprehensive trade deal agreed
Andrew Bridgen was said to be the most trenchant of the contributions

The implication was that soft Brexit would mean some of the no confidence letters would be submitted to Graham Brady but unclear how explicit this was
Bridgen led quite a personal attack on Olly Robbins. Suggested he only backed May because of her clear Brexit stance but when he heard reports of Robbins intentions, it suggested the party was not on the “right side, or the right pitch”

1) There’s a lot of BS about @nntaleb’s Black Swan, antifragility & skin in da game. Let’s take the gloves off and get into trouble.
2) When the Swan flew out, it was immediately butchered by imbeciles not understanding that you can’t predict the unpredictable.

That is the point – and an IQ filter NNT himself proly did not expect.
3) In any complex domain – life! – the Blackest Swan is always skulking around the corner. You know it’s coming, but you don’t know what where when. You can't tame what you've never even conceived of.

Importantly from last night, Labour Leave rebels voting against whip are now down to 2 - were at 7 during Article 50 amendments...
Eg Hoey & Stringer on this motion. But Campbell voted with Labour, Hopkins not there, Stuart left parliament, Field abstained
Would that be the same on eg the Government's exit date amendment? It certainly puts Tory rebel numbers of 10-15 in defeat territory
