1. Highly recommend scrolling down this thread on the huge Jack Kirby exhibit in Normandy. One question I have is why all the big solo Kirby exhibits have been in Europe (France, Switzerland) and not America.
2. Kirby was part of an excellent "Masters of American Comics" exhibit in 2005 at the Hammer Museum and The Museum of Contemporary Art (LA) but as far as I know has never had a big solo American show. That's kinds of strange since he's so influential an American artist.
3. Kirby created the visual & narrative template of Marvel comics (and hence the current wave of Hollywood blockbuster) but also had an influence on fine artists (Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein), novelists (Chabon, Lethem, GRR Martin) & filmmakers (Lucas, del Toro).
