Lost in all the noise: House Democrats now have Trump’s financial records from at least two banks, and are digging in to find his crimes and foreign entanglements. No wonder Pelosi is buying time on impeachment. She’s about to have the kind of smoking gun that can oust him.
Why settle for impeachment without removal (which is what it would be right now), and be stuck with this lunatic for another year and a half? She’s looking to get rid of him entirely. She’s literally calling for him to take a leave of absence. Get him out of there.
Most people pushing for “impeachment right this minute” are forgetting that it would still result in him having the full power of the presidency for 1.5 more years. If Pelosi really is aiming for his ouster, then she’s being more aggressive than the “impeach right now” crowd.
What stands out most: every House Democrat, even the ones who have advocated for impeachment right now, are emphatically standing behind Pelosi on this. She’s clearly told them more about her plan than she’s told us. It must be a doozy.
This leaves a lot of questions. How much legal leniency would Pelosi offer Trump in exchange for resigning? Could Pelosi damage Pence enough to convince him to finish out the term quietly? Does she think she can oust him too? But that’s all down the road. We’ll see.
