Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) with the Zimbabwe Civil Society Alliance (ZCSA) for short called ZCSOSUNA. Join me with @zcsosuna in triggering CSOS in "investing in nutrition as the foundation for economic growth and human development in Zimbabwe.
1. SUN: nutrition is the core of development, and of paramount importance to the public and private sector. Most development partners are inclined towards nutrition objectives. But how far are the efforts? How can we co-ordinate efforts in a better way? We discuss to ways
2. SUN: we traversed the country a couple of weeks ago with @ndakaripa and conversed with stakeholders. Yes there is agreement on the broad approaches and expectations. How can these efforts be realised? How do we sally the nation towards a cohesive and cogent nutrition agenda?
3. SUN: we are meeting to precisely answer these questions and issues, while inclined towards actions across the country, across sectors, across class, gender and demography. I will share with you snippets of the main issues and answers.
4. SUN: Zimbabwe joined the movement in 2011 with the FNC being the convener. It is part of a global movement aimed at achieving a world without hunger. It requires higher level political commitment and clarity in policy frameworks. Of course money matters to realise objectives
5. SUN: the movement embraces a multi-sectoral framework. It reaches to actors across the country, UN agencies, private business sector, academia, and the public sector.
6. SUN: nutrition is everything and also encompasses climate change, renewable energy, health and well being, quality domestic water, smart agric production, just and fair markets and competitiveness @ndakaripa @RuzivoTrust @beat_africa @KudzieChimzy @innochammy @JusG_G
7. SUN: youths are key to the nutrition agenda. This movement prioritizes their engagement across sectors.
8. SUN: how can the movement influence praxis a to al level. The governance structures are theoretical. They need to be influenced in practice on matters of budgeting, planning, project implementation through ensuring accountability of those with an nutrition agenda.
9. SUN: devolution is a key trending agenda and members need to urgently influence the meetings that are on going. The contribution of local CSOs has been limited. "We run the danger of being left out completely, as local structures gain power" says Kuda the national coordinator
10. SUN: the movement needs to engage practically at local level. Evidence and analysis on nutrition matters for the movement. The CSOs need to have basic resources, work closely with international partners, but being given space and not represented by internationals always
11. SUN: tell your story is what I urged the CSOs in nutrition movement. The space is not easily granted. They need to strengthen knowledge, good communication and consistently. They need to believe and partner on equal terms, not as recipients being sherpederd by others
12. SUN: the game and the maths is not in $dollars but in nutrution knowledge that is loaded upfront by the movement. It has to be taken serious work, sweat with limited or no rewards. I never realised that nutrition is not just health, it's everything we do everyday
13. SUN: projects are okay, but we need a political-economy of what they mean! How and what they intend or actually change. Sometimes they are like a season that passes. What we need is to deal with core values and norms to transform mindsets. The movement has its work cut out
14. SUN: our academia and universities are absent in society! They seem to be silos of books and churning out graduates not linked to society. The movement must deal with that at the leadership level of the universities than individual focal persons.
15. SUN: the focal person approach defeats culturising nutrition knowledge across all levels of learning in the education sector. Me thinks that if the universities are not prepared, we can create our own community "universities" that are relevant to our problems. 😏 worried
16. SUN: whose knowledge are we really driving must be our core question. It must be our agenda and that of people we serve. Knowledge knowledge and nothing but owned knowledge and not for reporting to somebody else. We are poor, coz we not setting the terms and our conditions
17. SUN: that's all for today folks! Let's help our passionate @zcsosuna they have a vision&ready, let's accompany them @ndakaripa @RuzivoTrust @beat_africa @UduguNation. I have enjoyed listening to a dozen local level CBOs ready to work. They have belief, & I believe them👌
