I honestly don't think the vast majority of cis people understand just how much trans people avoid discomforting cis folks at our own expense. Do you know how many times I haven't used a public restroom because there's a line and standing there might draw negative attention?

I haven't played recreational softball in two years, something I used to love doing. Why? Because even in something as low stakes as recreational softball, someone might get pissed that a team rightly counts me as a woman in their gender requirements.

I haven't been to a gym in two years because I know all it takes is one person reading me as masculine--it could be something as trivial as my jaw line--and making a fuss over my using a single-occupant women's shower, something no one else can see.

Trans people go out of our way to avoid inconveniencing or disappointing cis people constantly. All the time. And it's why whenever this conversation turns to a debate over us as a "threat" to others, I want to scream.

There are straight and/or cis white dudes raping women behind dumpsters campuses and inside police cars during traffic stops and in the Catholic Church and getting away with it, but somehow, trans women are the threat to kids and cis women? No, WE are the ones under attack.

I have no patience for absurd claims that trans women--and trans people in general--are a burden on cis folks. Y'all need to stop worry about us and start paying attention to straight and/or cis white men who are flaunting their corruption and sexual abuses in your face.
