Our nation’s electronic voting systems are vulnerable to foreign and domestic hackers. So we must go back to basics: paper ballots. We also need to hand-count a sample of those ballots after every election. Two new federal bills would help. eff.org/deeplinks/2019…
Rep. Thompson’s bill is a good start. It would require paper ballots in all federal elections, authorize $1.7 billion to support the transition to paper ballots, and authorize $20 million to support post-election audits. eff.org/deeplinks/2019…
Sen. Wyden’s bill is even better. It not only requires paper ballots and authorizes federal funds for the transition, but also requires post-election audits, bans internet-connected voting machines, & gives voters power to enforce election security rules. eff.org/deeplinks/2019…
