Media can cook up all the polls it wants, but every political consultant with his or her head screwed on right knows Donald Trump will destroy this doddering old fool. He just threw away his flimsy "moderate" disguise to placate the far Left before the primary even heats up.
Biden is the worst of all worlds as a candidate: an empty suit seen as insincere by the small but noisy gang of radicals that has completely captured the Democrat Party, but also an opportunistic coward who can't fool moderate voters into thinking he would stand up to the Left.
It's an incredibly costly blunder for him to make this clumsy abortion pander and take up an extreme position opposed by the vast majority of Americans. He still thinks it's the 1990s and he can do this garbage early, then "run to the center" during the general.
Biden's blunder plays perfectly into Donald Trump's campaign strategy. As in 2016, he'll run as the defender of Middle America against left-wing radical aggression. It will be child's play for Trump to provoke Biden into saying things that will horrify middle-class voters.
Biden is clearly, clumsily blowing an opportunity to show real leadership and turn the Democrat Party away from its descent into radical lunacy. Abortion would have been a perfect opportunity to do that, and all he had to do was stick with his position of decades.
But the Democrat Party IS insane, and corrupt to its very core. Abortion interests and radical ideologues run that party, and the will of the majority of American voters be damned. Biden is demonstrating that in a way no one can ignore, not even the most casual news consumer.
Biden didn't gain much by selling his soul - he was well ahead of the lunatic Dem field because primary voters clearly seem to think he's the only "electable" candidate they have. But he got rolled by extremists anyway. That's going to make him a LOT less "electable."
It probably won't help Biden all that much with the lunatic fringe, because they know he's insincere. They can see him already calculating his "run to the center" and it disgusts them.
The activist wing of the Dem Party is firmly convinced 2020 is the moment to run as out-and-proud leftists against a beatable incumbent, claim a huge mandate, and finish the job of fundamentally transforming America. Biden with his finger in the wind is not what they want. /end
