So this is why Trump is unfit for the presidency. No, it's not because he's a Republican (which is why most of you hate him), but because he's an authoritarian trying to destroy the stable, non-partisan institutions of government, like the Fed. 
Trump knows what all economists know: chances are greater than 50% we'll dip into recession before the November 2020 election, and that the Fed can push that off until after the election if they lower interest rates.
The Fed is supposed to be above politics to avoid this sort of tampering, because the longer they push off the recession, the worse it will be. It's how Venezuela got inflation rates of a million percent, because they politicized the central bank to print money to support regime.
On the whole, Trump's presidency hasn't been as catastrophic as many feared, but not because he's a good leader, but because our institutions are strong. However, the longer he's in office, the weaker they become.
