THREAD: Just interviewed Rory Stewart about his Brexit plans. He has accused the other candidates of not explaining how they'd deliver - but how would he get the current deal through?
First point - he thinks there is "literally no alternative". He has another pop at Boris Johnson saying: "It's like some man stuck on a zip wire - you can wave all the Union Jack's you want but you're not going anywhere".
BUT the question; how does he deliver a deal that has been rejected three times? He argues he'd have a mandate as Tory leader, would remove red lines and has better relationships with Labour so could persuade some opposition MPs.
He also argues the European Elections were an "electric shock" for Labour and the Tories - and they face "annihilation" if they don't deliver brexit (and yes he thinks the only way to do it is the WA).
But Theresa May said that for months. Wouldn't Brexit just be postponed repeatedly until MPs back a deal they don't like? Stewart says that would be the case under any PM.
So Rory Stewart's basic pitch is he'd be better than Theresa May at selling the deal. But the basic strategy that's been criticised for months would remain #groundhogbrexit
