Get ready for a story of woe about my @Tesla, @Travelers insurance, and San Francisco. TL;DR: over a month and thousands of dollars to fix a car break-in, and I still don't have my car back even though it has been fixed for a week.
On the night of May 16th my Model 3 was broken into in Hayes Valley in two spots east of Salt and Straw. The cameras were broken at the shop, so no dice. Nothing was visible in the car, and I forgot to turn on sentry mode.
I filed a police report, called @Travelers, and a body shop as the doors got scratched up in the break-in. With the rash of Model 3 burglaries glass is in short supply, so I had to wait a few weeks there.
Car goes to the shop on the 9th, and they provide an estimate of around $4k for the work. @travelers was hard to get a hold of, but when I did, they quoted $1600, and they issue a payment to cover that part of the repair.
Shop starts work on 6/10, sends a new estimate to @Travelers on the 12th. When I called to find out what the story was, my claim had been marked sensitive - either a politician, a sports star, or an employee.
Repairs finish on the 17th. After both the shop and me repeatedly calling @Travelers, they said they had no record of the new estimate coming in. Shop resubmits it, and they take the rest of the week to say, hold it we need to take a look.
Now it is the 21st and the adjuster dropped by without checking to see if there would be anyone at the shop to meet him. When the place reopens on Monday maybe the adjuster will be able to get in contact with the repair shop and I'll get my car back.
Long story short, your insurance company will cash your checks quickly, but who knows how long it will take for a claim to be resolved.
