Attention all new neph fellows who are embarking on the next step in their career. If you chose nephrology, you have a passion for the field. Ignore the detractors and hear me out. Having been Chief Fellow at @OSUWexMed allow me to give you tips and tricks of the trade.
1. The learning curve is steep. The brutal truth: You will transition from your Internal Medicine comfort zone into being an 'intern' all over again. Do not panic. It is normal to feel overwhelmed the first month or so. Be patient and breathe in. Allow yourself time to adapt.
2.The resources available to help you gather all the knowledge you need over the next 2 years are abundant. I will start off by mentioning the Comprehensive textbook of Nephrology. Book is Gold! Buy it and read it.
3. AJKD.org <--- Make this your go-to website. The 'core curriculum' section is a gold mine of comprehensive information that will serve you well throughout your fellowship. Of course you just have to make @NephMadness an annual highlight from here on. @AJKD
4. @GlomCon <--- Everything and anything renal pathology related. Subscribe to their Youtube channel as well for frequent up-to-date discussions on all the Glomerular diseases. website: glomcon.org.
5. Now if there is one book you ought to have in your bag (if not white coat), it's gotta be @NephSecrets by the amazing trio @Nephro_Sparks @kidney_boy & @edgarvlermamd . Focused, concise, packed with information! - Neph on steroids!
6. The @ASNKidney website also has a valuable tool for all fellows, especially as you reach your second year and start preparing for the boards. Make sure you do all the modules of #KSAP. BTW they are free!

8. Join the online nephrology journal club @NephJC and make sure to check out their podcast @NephJC_Podcast hot out of the oven! I sharpened my critical analytical skills just by listening to these online mentors!
9. Have a minute at lunch break? Have some diagnostic fun with @Neph_Sim and its really well designed case scenarios that provide essential teaching points! @ssfarouk . Btw first to answer the quizzes right gets a lanyard. I have a couple, they are nice nephrology swags!
10. As a prerequisite to being a neph fellow, you just have to be familiar with @RenalFellowNtwk . It's literally the most popular Nephrology blog. Lazy sunday afternoon? Browse through and enjoy on your smartphone.
11. Eventually, if you feel like contributing to the online neph community and become a content creator I highly recommend an application to the @NSMCInternship . This will not only give you tools to become an online educator but also build contacts in the neph world.
12. Of course there is much more on #MedTwitter that you need to explore but the above resources should help you to start with. Fellowship will be hard and brutal, but keep your passion going. If you love your job you won't have to work another day in your life.
13. Finally I want to say, from a timeline perspective, allow yourself ~6 months to test the waters and try finding your niche. From your 2nd year onward, focus on the field of nephrology that sparks your creative interest. That's when magic happens!
Thankful to all my mentors at @OSUWexMed for the training they gave me. Excited to see you all on the 'attending' side ... I am now one of your kind.
@JasonProsek @robinsshah @BradRovin @khaledyb @rimakang5 @DrAnil001 @samirparikhOSU . Buck out!
Without forgetting the coolest and most well dressed transplant nephrologist I know. ;) @alejandro_diez_
