Interesting results on people's self-described national identity in Northern Ireland from 2016-2018 using @ARK_info NI Life & Times survey data when considering the variable of religion.

Breakdown of respondents is roughly 4/10 Catholic, 4/10 Protestant & 2/10 No Religion.

We see that 2016-2018 there has been very little change since 2016 in the proportion of #Catholic respondents saying they have Irish-only and predominantly-Irish identity.
Notably, c.1 in 10 describe themselves as having an 'other' identity.

There has been a significant shift among #Protestant respondents towards having a more exclusively British identity.
That said, the proportion saying that their identity is (at least) mainly British has remained stable after a boost in 2017.

After meeting Barnier yesterday, Barclay said:
“I think the impact of no-deal is greater to the Irish economy than it is in the UK. So the EU want to avoid no-deal.”

That ‘I think’ is doing a lot of work there.

In that it isn't quite accurate.

The fact is that, sure, Ireland will be deeply affected by #NoDeal, and in an intrinsically negative way.

Economic analysis predicts a fall of around 0.5-1.5% in GDP in the year afterwards, with a cumulative effect of -4.5% by 2023.

Today is possibly .@theresa_may's last day as PM, if .@BorisJohnson can command a majority (which is in some doubt...)

Flawed Model
The Uk's history is popularly explained by only one interpretation, known as the Whig interpretation. This explains it as a series of events by which parliament became supreme. Given the government's contempt for parliament, it doesn't look that supreme to me.
Serfs not Smurfs
In the middle ages the Kings of England found it hard to raise taxes, so they established parliament to do so. Nobles, & in exchange for granting taxes they demanded land. Since the kings had little they instead gave them the land of the serfs in the Enclosures.

It’s understood her original preference was to ask EU for a short extension which could be lengthened if needed, or a long one with a break clause in it.
But @MichelBarnier told me yesterday that it’s short or long, not both.
.@MichelBarnier also made clear that a specific reason must be given to warrant an extension: “Needs to be linked to something new - a new event, new political process.“
So:
- election?
- 2nd referendum?
- new cross-party political declaration (removing May red lines)?

1) Why Labour #Brexit Conference policy is flawed

Unfortunately Ben is wrong here, Corbyn is following the agreed policy here because that policy let's him do exactly what he wants on Brexit, not what the members want

The policy is a well crafted stitch up
2) there's 2 consistent themes from Corbyn supporters
a) this is the policy Labour conference overwhelmingly supported
b) Corbyn's following that policy to the letter
Both of these are true, but neither stand up to critical examination if we're being honest
3) in terms of the first "this is the policy conference supported" well, as a remainer its essentially the same as the non meaningful vote May tried to create
May's choice was her deal or no. Deal which, if true, is no deal at all
It was the same with Labour conference policy
