NEW: seems like the writ is not being issued today after all. Government is citing “returning officer issues”. This is pretty unusual. One source says “this raises the question of gameplaying to delay to September.”
Curiouser and curiouser. Powys County Council tell me they were expecting the writ today and haven’t been told anything to the contrary. They say there are no issues as far as they are concerned and will act on it immediately. What’s happening @JulianSmithUK?
The @WelshLibDems (main challengers in the seat) aren’t happy.

Chatting to Brussels source this am; says the chatter there is around Johnson "obviating" the backstop with an unlimited extension to the transition period, until such time as tech solutions can be found for border. With "overhauled PD" backstop never needs to come into force...
Would involve "keyhole surgery" on WA. Would satisfy DUP that NI not being treated any differently from GB, potentially some Lab votes worried about cliffedge. But how can ERG sign up to a potentially indefinite closer relationship than backstop would entail?
So @BorisJohnson, you've said no backstoop. But do you rule out an extension to the transition period too?

Why oh why is taking the train through California not more of a thing?
Incredible scenery, reasonably extensive coverage (of the coast at least), cheap, comfortable and actually quite luxurious. Very slow but who cares when you can stare out of the window at this.
And what a window to stare out of. New love for @Amtrak.

I celebrated my 30th birthday in the only way appropriate: I went to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Full marks for the “knock down regulations” video game. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’ll be honest, I’ve been to better pubs.
Tbf knock down regulations wasn’t the only game on offer. Other classics include: “Cut Taxes Game”, “Reduce Government Spending” and “Live in Reagan’s America” which was basically like Monopoly but where everybody wins.

#FactCheck: Flight logs show former Pres. Clinton taking at least 26 trips aboard Jeffrey Epstein's “Lolita Express”--even apparently ditching his Secret Service detail for at least five of the flights.
#Update: The statement specifically says Pres. Clinton accompanied Epstein on “trips” and not “flights,” suggesting there could have been 4 occasions made up of multiple stops.

#REDFLAG: After a setback in the Supreme Court, Trump asks his lawyers if he can DELAY THE CENSUS

The census is constitutionally-mandated to begin in April 2020, under Article I, Section 2.

Trump is asking if he can IGNORE the Constitution b/c he doesn't like a SCOTUS decision.
#RELATED: The Supreme Court ruled against the Trump Administration's proposal to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census...for now.

It would've led to a severe undercount, which would've rigged elections and resources in favor of white Republicans.
#HUGEWIN: The Trump Administration will begin printing the 2020 Census WITHOUT the citizenship question.

After missing their deadline, some feared Trump may actually try to defy the Constitution and the law.

This is an incredible victory for democracy!
