And I don't know why anyone would opt for a religion whose dominant media image is that of the White America-first right winger, the child abusing Catholic priest, or the money-obsessed prosperity gospel "preacher".
He looks more like a contemporary Ethiopian than a Norwegian. He cared about ALL people regardless of race, income or immigration status.
Where in the world is that Jesus?
popularmechanics.com/science/health…
Where is the Jesus who:
- preached from borrowed boats,
- multiplied borrowed food,
- rode on a borrowed colt,
- and was buried in a borrowed tomb.
He has been replaced by Gucci-flaunting pretenders.
Where is the Jesus who spent a full day hanging out with a divorced woman till his friends started looking for him. The one who spent so much time with bad people that he was called "a friend of sinners".
Who wouldn't want to hang out with that Jesus?
"You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?"
That was not directed at prostitutes; he was calling out the religious leaders of his day.
He ate on the Sabbath, forgave a woman caught in adultery (where was the man BTW?), and threw the money-obsessed prosperity preachers out of the temple (they were called money changers back in the days).
The historical Jesus was a renegade who was killed for his lack of conformity to religious expectations of his day. He was a big strong man, not the weird effeminate thing that is on so many walls.
It needs to reintroduce the real Jesus to a new generation that is fed up with the religious leaders of the day.
I have met and interacted with multiple loving, kind, "salt-of-the-earth", grace-full Christians. But you NEVER see them on TV. And they are NOT the dominant face of the religion. They are more like Jesus that the weird people who claim to speak for him today.
