We've heard less from Hunt than Johnson as to a Brexit plan. But best not assume saying less means a really serious plan is being assembled.
Technology again, just as the alternative arrangements commission moves away from this solution as it doesn't address most of the border challenge

So far Brexit reality in the Conservative leadership contest is rather like England's performance in the cricket world Cup, occasions when hopes rise, only to be soon dashed by another defeat...

Not a surprise. Although Robbins wasn't really chief Brexit negotiator, as we managed to enter negotiations without establishing defined roles. Hopefully that fundamental error won't be repeated.
This story suggests Hunt is lining up former Canadian PM Stephen Harper as a negotiator, to prove that gimmicks are more important at this stage than substance. The insularity of the UK press on the Brexit negotiations has been evident since day one
Those wanting to know more about trade negotiations - like for example perhaps those wanting to be PM - could perhaps usefully read the explainers of @DmitryOpines - who explains how it actually works and why being 'tough' isn't the answer... explaintrade.com/blogs?category…

Dmitry is right, I've made the same point too, but I'm afraid it is our most minority opinion - you don't get a deal through "believe" or threats, but collaborative working. Those that say the EU only want to dominate are just doing that to create a no-deal justification.
Inevitable follow-up, but Selmayr said Ireland was the price of Brexit, or Verhofstadt said... well, in a negotiation people say stuff. Grow up, which we're going to have to do as a country. And understand the other side, properly, not the paranoid version.
Just the latest example of the myth we just can't shake, that we'll only get a better Brexit deal by threatening to walk away. The myth that has hobbled our negotiating strategy since day one and continues to do so. (source @JGForsyth thesun.co.uk/news/9398378/b…)

20 years of negotiations.

There's hope for Brexit, US-China, or the WTO yet.
Probably best not to get over-excited though. Could easily take another few years, most likely punctuated by further such announcements, to reach implementation. And that's if it can pass the European Parliament, not a given.

1. The Bill. He wants to attach strings about "when and how" the money is paid over.

This is old Brexiteer (@DavidDavisMP) thinking - the 'bill' as down payment on future, rather than EU view of settling debt /2
@BorisJohnson @DavidDavisMP It's a sensitive subject in Brussels, but I think it's about wanting to argue for a changed dynamic in phase 2.

Boris will argue he will 'tackle hard' in second half, but needs more than warm words. Needs to point to leverage. /3

A real, genuine question for the #Brexit nerds (and no sarcastic comments *please*) - what do we think Hunt and Johnson would actually *do* on Brexit?
My best guess for Hunt:

- go to meet Barnier and others in BXL shortly after being elected, to see what he can get
- return to Westminster with little more than the current WA+PD
- see there's no majority for it
- end up asking EU for a delay
Best guess for Johnson:

- go off to BXL making some kind of waffling but bombastic demands, like "alternative arrangements" for NI border
- EU tells him this isn't workable
- returns to London claiming intransigence of the EU
- then heads for No Deal, Commons seeks to stop it...

@ProsperityUK_ @NickyMorgan01 @GregHands Quick recap: why does this matter? Because if technology can solve the Irish border, then the all the UK can go 'bucaneering' and have independent trade policy outside EU single market and customs union, without leaving Northern Ireland behind.

BUT there's a problem... /2
The UK has committed to 'no new infrastructure' to make the border work and "no related checks and controls"...which makes it very difficult.

Add to this that 'no border' is what makes the Good Friday Agreement work, and local communities DONT WANT a border....
