I mean, this is gross af, but it's sort of burying the lede, since there was actually the least support for denying service to Black people of the groups surveyed. Here's the order:
LGBT people 30%
Trans people 29%
Atheists 24%
Muslims 22%
Jews 19%
Black people 15%
What IS different about support for denying service to African Americans is that unlike all the other targeted groups, there's not a significant partisan difference. Republicans and Democrats were basically equally likely to say businesses should be able to deny service.
But basically, 1 in 3 people think businesses should be able to deny service to LGBT people.

1 in 4 for atheists.
1 in 5 for Muslims and Jews.
1 in 6 for Black people.
The ACTUAL lede here, however, is that support for denying service to all of these groups (at least, for which there was older data) has gone up significantly in the past 5 years.
The gay & lesbian bit is particularly depressing in that regard. While young people are less likely to support service denials to gay people, support for it went up from 12% to 26% since 2014.
Also, educational level didn't make a significant difference.
Strangely, old people were significantly less likely to support denying service to trans people than to gays or lesbians.
Democrats and independents held steady on support for denying atheists service, but Republican support shot up.

The biggest jump was in white mainline Protestants (9% to 29%). Wtf, people.
No significant age difference on Muslims, but a big partisan split there, which isn't surprising.
No significant age difference for Jews, either. Much less of a partisan split.

Democrats are more likely to say businesses should be able to refuse service to Jews than to Muslims.
For every other group, it's been Republicans with the most support for service denials, followed by independents, followed by Democrats.

Support for denying service to Jews actually reverses that. Reps are still most likely to support it, but Dems more so than independents.
Like, I dunno, these are small percentage differences, but the fact that wishy-washy independents have a stronger moral center here than Democrats is, like--

I haven't been taking Antisemitism On The Left talk seriously, but this is frustrating.
Like, I get a certain percentage of Democrats being like, "business owners should have the right to not serve anyone they don't feel like serving." I don't *agree,* but it's a position that isn't necessarily driven by bigotry. But in that case, it should be consistent.
And to be fair, it actually IS pretty consistent. We're talking about a few percentage points either way. Dem support for denying service:
GL 18%
Trans 19%
Atheists 17%
Muslims 14%
Jews 17%
Black people 16%
Of course, the crystal clear takeaway from all of this, not that it will surprise anyone, is that white evangelicals are the--homophobic, transphobic, anti-atheist, Islamophobic, antisemitic, racist--worst. The fucking absolute worst.
So, in short: Americans, young and old, Republican and Democrat, male and female, evangelical and mainline, Protestant and Catholic, and even non-white Protestant, are either more bigoted or more comfortable expressing their bigotry in a survey.

Fuck everything. The end.
