Might I humbly suggest to all the other white people: if you are made uncomfortable by black people, immigrants, trans people, sex workers and any other marginalized groups asking to be treated with dignity and respect, that fits squarely in the “you problem” category.
And I say that sincerely. Look, I get it. We’ve all found ourselves in moments where the way we think about the world, and indeed the very core of our selves, is challenged. And the initial reaction is often a rejection of that.
It’s common enough to be pedestrian. But it’s the second beat, when reflection often starts that’s key. So, instead of digging in on your myopic and hurtful views -and then writing long, racist columns in a national newspaper or your local Facebook group - stop and think
Not about why you’re right, but why someone would ever be in the position that they’d need to demand respect and dignity in the first place. Hopefully, you’ll adjust accordingly.
And if you don’t and you still feel the need to rail against Spanish speakers and trans people just generally existing and black people demanding an end to systemic, cultural racism ... well then congratulations. You’re a racist asshole.
TLDR don’t be a fucking dick
