Here's the latest on the top jobs scramble at the EU summit:

/ I'm told there's still a big split in the EPP with German defence minister Ursula Von Der Leyen being introduced as a late-in-the-game Commission President candidate instead of Manfred Weber
/ This has irritated other EPP prime ministers who were increasingly rowing in behind Michel Barnier, who would have the support of French President @EmmanuelMacron and is supported by the four Visegrad countries.
/ If the EPP flipped to Barnier he would probably have the numbers to get the Commission job. Von Der Leyen would tick quite a few boxes, however.
/ The EPP met before the summit. The mtg was inconclusive so it spilled over to the Council, with Donald Tusk, Jean-Claude Juncker, Leo Varadkar and others in attendance, including Merkel. The summit proper is not now going to go ahead till 1300 CET
/ If the EPP, which is still absolutely against Timmermans, gets the Commission presidency job, that frees up the Council job - latest money is on Danish pm @larsloekke Rasmussen; Maroš Šefčovič is now in the running for High Rep for Foreign Policy
/ An EPP spokesman has refused to confirm or deny all of the above. And of course it could all change in an hour.
