'G Suite for Education' is used in schools across the world, also in the EU. Its privacy policy says that Google may link personal data processed in schools with personal data processed in other Google services.

How can any school use this? h/t @adfichter

Adrienne Fichter wrote an interesting piece on the negotiations on a contractual agreement between Google and the educational authority in Switzerland (ok not EU, but almost). Surprise! Google doesn't make concessions regarding data protection + liability: republik.ch/2019/07/02/der…
Can both be true?

"User personal information collected in the [G Suite for Education] Core Services is used only to provide the Core Services"

"The Google Privacy Policy describes fully how Google services generally use information, including for G Suite for Education users"
Anyway, pushing responsibility to schools seems to be key:

"We provide a variety of user controls …to make meaningful choices about how information is used in Google services. Depending on the settings enabled by the school, users can …manage their privacy and information"
It would also be interesting how many schools have enabled any option that is part of 'additional services' + how many of them know about its implications. Because e.g. from a media literacy perspective it makes of course sense to 'teach' YouTube #noescape
