Some interesting facts on flying:
* 80% of the world's population have never flown
* In 2017, only 3% of the population flew
* Norwegian's on average take 1 domestic & 1 international flight per year
* Norway has the 5th, 8th, 16th most traveled routes in Europe!

1/
There are serious inequities in who has access to, & uses, flying.

Perhaps these inequalities are why so much attention is put on aviation emissions. In big picture, aviation is small (this figure is only emissions from oil, domestic aviation & aviation bunkers shown).

2/
Even in Norway, aviation is relatively small (again, this is just emissions from the oil sector).

That is not to say we should ignore aviation emissions, definitely not, but we tend to get worked up about small things (aviation) & ignore big things (road transport).

3/
In the Nordics there is a growing movement on "flight shaming" (#flyskam in Norway, #flygskam in Sweden), an opportunity for the elite of the elite to name call the elite who take flights.

I would completely agree that aviation is overused by some. But...

4/
But, why isn't "car shaming" a thing? Is that because it hits everyday folk, not the elite that we love to hate? Or is it because we have EVs, but then why not "EV subsidy shaming", where the elite get big fat government subsidies to drive a Tesla?

5/
I have no problem with people flight shaming others, go for it! I am sure it will have a marginal effect, primarily among the already engaged. It may cause more polarization (class warfare), which may offset the marginal gains.

Worst, it distracts from the bigger problems.

6/
So, flight shame if you must & if it is your thing. Just don't lose sight of the bigger (climate) objective, reducing GHG emissions...
