Does anyone feel they understand precisely why Theresa May was permitted to carry on as PM during the Tory leadership election, rather than an interim PM? Is it that no-one thought it worth forcing her out? Or was it that any interim option seemed likely to be even worse?
I'm not pretending it's a big issue, but doesn't there seem something a bit odd about saying "You're an absolutely unmitigated catastrophe as PM, both for the Party & the country - why don't you stay on a further two months"?
Presumably if we had a purely interim leader, instead of May having carried on, we wouldn't be getting nonsense like this? thesun.co.uk/news/9390360/m…
