exist for their founders and owners and for whatever purpose they were founded and/or evolved into doing. It might be profit (to make a living), create a meaningful job, be one's own boss, or whatever. What's common for all businesses is that they exist and survive because they
manage to produce and sell goods that their customers perceive as sufficiently valuable to justify paying the price. Both absolutely speaking and relative other offerings in the market. Profit is relative: you make money if you keep costs lower and value higher than competitors.
