It's not a huge step from "I tweeted death threats at a corporate mascot account, never contemplating that I was tweeting at an actual person" to "I tweeted death threats at some person's account, never contemplating that I was tweeting at an actual person."
If you're tweeting violent, abusive crap at strangers, you're making the internet, and the world, a shittier place. And the internet, and the world, are shitty enough already.
This is why I block abusive people so quickly, and why I block rather than muting. I don't want to interact with abusive people, I don't want them finding people to abuse through me, and I don't want them setting a standard for interactions in my mentions.
(And yeah, also: If your followers are a pack of flying monkeys, I judge you for that. Your choices played a big part in creating that situation, whether you take responsibility for it or not.)
The woman I quote-tweeted in the first tweet in this thread has gone private, so for context—and in case you've somehow missed it—her tweet was about this essay by a guy who was banned from Twitter for tweeting abuse and threats at Mr. Peanut. vice.com/en_us/article/…
