Whatever the savings of piling one gate on top of the other gates instead of getting new taller safer gates used everywhere in Europe will be wiped out by one wrongful death lawsuit.
As a 5'3" person I'm hear to tell you that if one of those things closed on my head, it would literally be maximum force at temple height.

I realize Bart is losing riders due to quality of commute issues (which are largely a symptom of region's housing/homeless/opioid crisis). Isn't there a better solution? More homeless outreach workers, for one. More visibility of Bart employees, also.
Also I use Bart every day. The exterior of some stations are grim. And the tunnel in Powell issue is well documented. But mostly it's just fine. Cheap, climate-friendly way to commute.
