Sophia’s Choice

At the whim of a CBP officer this 3-year-old, who doctors say cannot safely wait in Mexico, was asked to pick: your mom, or your dad.
The story of Sophia, her two siblings, and her parents begins in Hondorus, where her mom and aunt witnessed Sophia’s grandmother murdered by a gang.
"My mom was shot nine times, and even after the murder they weren't satisfied with having killed her. Her body was slumped on the ground, and they ran over her with a motorcycle," Tania (Sophia’s mom).
Then, “Her sister-in-law [Sophia’s Aunt] was slain and her infant daughter [Sophia’s first cousin] left in a dumpster. Then Tania got a chilling note on her front door.”
"They left a note where they said we had 45 minutes to leave the house. They signed it 'Sincerely, the Mara Salvatrucha' " — the notorious MS-13 gang, Tania said.
They fled for their lives and made their way north, through dangerous conditions , until they reached America and made their asylum claim, only to be “placed in the Trump administration's ‘remain in Mexico’ program, formally called Migrant Protection Protocols,.…
which requires them to live in Juárez, Mexico, while an immigration judge in El Paso, Texas, decides whether they qualify for asylum in the U.S.”

“They've lived for months in shelters with their two young daughters [Sophia and her sister] and son [Sophia’s brother],…
…waiting for their time in court. They say they were threatened three times in Juárez, a city dominated by violent drug cartels.”

But, Sophia has a deadly serious heart condition, with a midline thoracotomy scar to prove it.
She has had myocardial infarctions previously and her life is threatened without proper medical care.

A physician contracted by the CBP agreed.
In an update on this story npr.org/2019/07/11/740…, this morning, 7/15/19, the following then ensued:
The doctor said Sophia could not go ‘back’ to Mexico. The on duty CBP officer, apparently at their own discretion, said ok one parent gets to stay with the children and the other has to go back to Mexico.
Then, the CBP officer turned to the 3-year-old and asked Sophia to make a choice: your mother or your father.
The doctor objected and argued vehemently. Nothing was settled until eventually that CBP officer’s shift ended and the doctor was able to convince the next CBP officer on duty not to separate the family.
The power at the discretion of these CBP officers, combined with their relative anonymity as underlings ‘just following orders, combined with the torrents of racism clearly flowing through the CBP, virtually guarantees evil.

Sophia’s Choice was pure evil.
