Nothing new to report except that comic sales are down again. And now we've heard how retailers are being encouraged the blockchain small press creators. So I thought I would share something with all of you. I was always a big @Marvel guy. Sure, I bought some @DCComics. Marvel
was my favorite comic company. I started buying comics when I was around seven or eight. I am now 53 this year. And still enjoy comics to this day. Except @Marvel isn't the same company it used to be. And @DCComics New 52 nearly ruined my taste for them. But I never gave up.
When the big 2 failed to produce something adequate I went back to my second love. Small press books. I've always liked independent comics. I was there when Elfquest, Grendel, TMNT and a host of others came on the scene hear it I bought them and loved them all. How did a kid
afford to buy all those comics? I worked, I did chores, I cut grass. By the time I was 11 I was making it nearly $1,500 or more a month just cutting grass in this summer. In the winter I shoveled snow. I help cut wood. I would work with various family members on their farms.
In other words I have always been very self-motivated to make money in order to buy the things that I want. Back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s I bought nearly every title from @Marvel . And about half of everything from @DCComics . I bought everything from first comics, everything
from Comico comics, everything from viz comics, and tons of other books. So what am I buying today? I'm lucky if I spend 60 to $70 a month on @Marvel & @DCComics combined. I buy every title from @Zenescope , @ALTERNACOMICS @DynamiteComics , and @AspenComics . And a
large number of books from @Indiegogo . Looking over my numbers, here's what I have found. I spend about $400 a month just on comics at my local LCS. That comes out to about $4,800 a year. But, I have spent $5k on crowdfunded books over the last 12 months.
Besides the fact that I spend a rather considerable amount of money on books. What does that say about @Marvel and @DCComics? Do I feel like I'm getting a better bang for my buck through crowdfunding? Sometimes. I have found about 30% of the books I bought were just ok.
Some were surprisingly fantastic. Some of you may be surprised to know that I was disappointed with jaw breakers. I thought the book was ho-hum story-wise. but that's just my opinion. Loved @CautionaryComic Ravage, loved @ComicsJacks White Lily. @DougTenNapel Bigfoot Bill
was fun! Got a kick out of @jondelarroz Flying Sparks. Robot Western @RobotWestern was a big surprise. Total eye candy. Tommy Gun Dolls, WOW. I could continue but there are just too many damn books. I'm looking forward to @ikaripress Brand, @EthanVanSciver Cyberfrog,
@DonalTDeLay Vestige, @ThatUmbrella Littlest Umbrella, @JamesonCal Shinobi Sasquatch, @CautionaryComic offworld, and so many more. But let me ask this question. Do you retailers really want to use blockchains to block someone like me? Someone that spends 10k a year just on
F-ing Comic Books? Wouldn't you people @Marvel & @DCComics rather I buy more of yours rather than shove and kick me out to other publishers? How long before I give up on you two and only buy #indiecomics ? Sooner than you freaking realize!
