It seems to be the axiomatic foundation of the right-wing argument these days. It is a xenophobic, demagogic, emotional appeal to a history that has been eviscerated & is now a shell of once-upon-a-time greatness.
And more importantly WHY was that?
There is a greatness in America. And it lies completely outside our current political
Carl Sanberg wrote a brilliant love poem to America called "The People, Yes". That is where the greatness is.
But this poser who claims all the goodness in the world as his, to feed his cavernous, and illegitimate ego, is not great.
But now the mask is off.
There is no greatness there
It makes us vulnerable. Like thinking the cancer that is roiling through your body is just an upset stomach.
Are we are truly great?
That is the question.
If it is a sentiment no deeper than a sports-team alligence,I suppose that is its own answer.
But If it is claimed to be something more, demand definitions.
