Please, @CommonsEUexit, this is NOT the definition of GATT Art24, and most people have stopped talking about an interim agreement.

Art24 is the GATT provision that ALLOWS FOR FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS IN GOODS.

Translation 1 — broadest possible. @JWhittingdale is asking: “To your knowledge, the British government has not so far raised the possibility of ‘a free trade agreement in goods’ in the event of no deal?”

One of the saddest parts of this "smokescreen" is that GATT Article 24 has been introduced to the public debate ONLY in a form that's no longer used, "interim".

The focus should be on what GATT Art24 is: the main WTO rule allowing free trade deals in goods/customs unions.

Not on the "interim" variety with its 10-yr limit, no longer used and not necessary for Brexit.

We welcome the latest report of the House of Commons Exiting the EU Committee published this morning and in particular the committee's call for ringfencing of the citizens' rights contained in the Withdrawal Agreement in the event of a no deal scenario... bit.ly/2HCnI4D
The report highlights what has been done and what would still need to be done to ensure that UKinEU have a clear legal status at the end of March if this does not happen - emphasising the time this will take and how it may lead to inconsistency between different countries.
We also welcome the raising of other key issues for UK citizens in the EU27 in the case of no deal: what will happen on healthcare and social security, especially the aggregation of pension rights, and to the rights of UK citizens who decide to return to the UK post Brexit

Amid reports that #UK PM @theresa_may hopes to renegotiate the "backstop" provision on the Northern Ireland border, let's recall that she already made clear what she wants in her letter to #EU leaders before disastrously losing the #Brexit Withdrawal Treaty ratification vote. 1/
"This could be mitigated by changes to the backstop itself," she wrote to @eucopresident & @JunckerEU "Proposals for a way in which the UK could choose to exit the backstop unilaterally were it ever to come into force, or for a hard time limit... 2/
on the duration of the usage of the backstop, have been raised and discussed in Parliament. We have also raised them previously in negotiations." So there are her proposals, i.e. the EU should basically just cave on backstop in face of House of Commons defeat. But but but ... 3/

First things first, it is important to point out, again, that the news of both HSBC and UBS closing down what are essentially satellite offices in #Nigeria is really a non-issue.
HSBC for example, is cutting its branches in up to a quarter of the 67 countries it operates in last I checked, so again, that is not the issue.
What should terrify us is that in the last year, foreign direct investment into our country has plunged by a factor of 30%.

That is significant, and if #Nigeria were serious, there should be a cabinet level meeting, but no, meat-heads will be masturbating about "corruption".
