Much of today's political warfare is a struggle to control the crusading spirit. The Kavanaugh debacle was a great example of how the Left treats *everything* as a savage moralistic crusade. They all think they're Spartacus. Booker is just the clown who said it out loud.
Crusaders scream at their followers to push ever forward, never giving an inch or deviating from their path to righteous triumph. Inconvenient facts are obstacles to be swept aside. Opponents have no rights to be respected, no dignity, no moral standing.
Under the crusading mindset, hesitation is treason. Demonstrating unshakeable commitment to the cause and celebrating its righteousness is paramount. This is one reason why gun control zealots, for example, pride themselves on not knowing anything about guns or gun laws.
The Kavanaugh mess was a perfect example of a lefty crusade that turned into mass hysteria overnight as a clumsy last-minute attack, a traditional Dem effort to dirty up a successful GOP nominee, suddenly looked like an opportunity for an upset political victory.
Torpedoes were damned and full speed ahead was ordered. Battalions of left-wing crusaders formed up on social media overnight. You can only achieve that kind of fanatical discipline by conditioning followers to march without asking questions when a crusade is called.
Republicans were long ago intimidated out of pushing ANY part of their agenda with moralistic language or populist energy. GOP leaders sputter with helpless outrage when the Left attacks and look for another hill they can pretend they're willing to die on.
Abortion is one of the few remaining issues where Repubs are willing to explore a moral dimension, but even there, only the Dems call for win-at-all-costs crusades and depict their enemies as devils who must be destroyed. Only Dems swing sledgehammers at wedge issues with gusto.
Recalling the Kavanaugh fight in all its odious details is essential preparation for the 2020 campaign, which the Dems absolutely will treat as a moralistic crusade in which all enemies must be destroyed and rules can be broken with abandon.
Dems have been working since 2016 to condition their followers for such a crusade, including the violent extremist shock troops. The current fracas over the extremist Squad is all about the Left insisting only they can hold enemies in contempt or challenge their moral standing.
That framework is vital to what the Left has planned for the 2020 election. They intend to conquer and subjugate what remains of the old America in a brutal crusade. They want an absolute monopoly on the sort of language needed to whip up a frenzy of moral outrage. /end
