Obstruction investigation was "of critical importance," Mueller says.
What are Republicans going to ask about, if Mueller won't answer questions about the opening of the Russia investigation or the Steele Dossier?
NADLER: What about total exoneration? Did you actually totally exonerate the president?

MUELLER: No.
Collins asked Mueller if, *colloquially,* collusion = conspiracy. Mueller said no.

Collins tried to gotcha by quoting the Mueller report's line that "legal dictionaries" treat collusion as largely synonymous with conspiracy.

But legal is not the same as colloquial.
Ratcliffe pressing Mueller on lack of DOJ precedent for saying they can't exonerate someone because they're not confidence in his innocence.

Mueller says this was a "unique situation."
SENSENBRENNER: Hey, unlike Ken Starr, you didn't say whether Trump's conduct was impeachable.

MUELLER: That wasn't my mandate. (He was a special counsel, not an independent counsel like Starr) "Our mandate does not go to other ways of addressing conduct."
Mueller says he was *not* a candidate for FBI director to replace Comey. He visited the White House to talk to Trump about the position but not as a candidate.

(Trump has claimed that one of Mueller's conflicts is he was a candidate.)
Tired: "Outside my purview"

Wired: "I take your question"
Well, Mueller might consider Comey a friend, but I have some bad news for him... politico.com/story/2018/12/…
Mueller's team has addressed the topic of charging Mifsud.

They said that Papadopoulos's lies to FBI "undermined investigators’ ability to challenge the Professor or potentially detain or arrest him" while he was in US. He then left and didn't return.

Effect is: no clippable TV footage of Mueller reading report passages to play on cable.

Tricky question here. Mueller asked by Rep. Wenstrup (R) if he found no evidence any Trump associates were involved in the hacking **or publication** of Clinton campaign emails.

Mueller unsure what to say. Answer re: publication is not actually clear in the report
Mueller makes it clear: he didn't subpoena Trump because "of the necessity of expediting the end of the investigation." He didn't want to deal with a lengthy court battle.

Definitely a decision open to some criticism.
