1. I remember clearly when we first started advocating for local content in the Oil & Gas industry. Everything to discourage was said . Some predicted that avg cost of oil in Nigeria will even become so prohibitive we can’t make money to give states. Was mad #LocalContentEconomy
2. I was privileged to be one of the earliest beneficiaries of Local Content Policy (not the law now). The Policy was piloted in 2000-2002. I got hired by Exxon in Houston as a result. To manage 3 Nigerian entities understudying 3 foreign companies on EPC #LocalContentEconomy
3. As a young engineer, I witnessed as the Nigerian companies NETCO, Delta Tek And Amazon Energy aped the US Companies but the folks that I worked with on the Nigerian side were far more knowledgeable than the wannabes Managing our projects in Houston #LocalContentEconomy
4. It was even more so annoying since as a child of the industry, I witnessed my father growing up being so frustrated that the juniors of his in Britain whom he trained when he was a NEBOSH instructor were posted by Shell to head him. #LocalContentEconomy
5. Thus, my first assignment in Exxon being to manage the interface of this pilot Policy was dream come through. My young activist self went to work. Not sure my American superiors liked it but the Nigerian supervisors at MPN loved my recommendations #LocalContentEconomy
6. A tangible output of that work, was the formation of Delta Afrik JV with Delta Tek Nigeria by the foreign partner it was paired with - then WorleyParsons. By fate, I later went on to work for Worley. Karma is real. #LocalContentEconomy
7. Of course, that policy later went on to mature into the Local Content law that formed @officialncdmb that has opened up the oil and gas industry today to massive domestic participation. They even have a $200m NCFund. #LocalContentEconomy
8. Again, as fate will have it- I later left Worley to join Amazon Energy Nigeria one of the Nigerian entities I had supervised & who could now do more as Executive Vice President in 2012. Who said Karma is not real? #LocalContentEconomy
9. My young career had benefited massively from the policy I had helped to baby. I rose to the C-Suite of the industry in 10 years, something impossible with Local Content. And for better as it made me the entrepreneur I am today. #LocalContentEconomy
10. This is why I take my work at Nigeria Content Consultative Forum serious as I know I need to open that door for that new graduate as others opened for me. And support Local Content in all ramifications of National Life if we want to create Nigerian jobs #LocalContentEconomy
11. So count me in, Local Content for Agric, Local Content for Milk, even Local Content for Garment and Military Hardware. #LocalContentEconomy
12. We must produce what we consume. It is not negotiable! Real jobs like mine are at stake. #LocalContentEconomy
