Hi Dr. Lexier. You are partially correct that free speech is not under duress on campus, or anywhere else in Canada. It’s not under threat from the left. But it is seriously in jeopardy from UCP and the far right.

One of the foundational rights in a democracy is free speech. Without it, democracy does not exist. When free speech is suppressed, our voice is silenced and dissent is impossible.

Democracies don’t suppress free speech. With one exception. Hate speech.

Hate speech is destructive, demoralizing, manipulative, and enables intimidation and violent pushback from those using it. A huge rise in hate speech is occurring globally. Many want to bring it to Canada.

This is the free speech Kenney & UCP are referring to.

There’s been a concerted effort by far right to bring hate speech to Canada.

The US supports all free speech, including hate speech. This is why they are in their current political mess. A long time ago, the US changed its laws allowing biased journalism & hate speech.

Canada has resisted this change. Until Harper was PM.

Harper changed broadcasting laws, copyright laws, and changed ability to claim human rights abuse from hate speech. All in the effort to enable hate speech.

US far right is currently pursuing the ability to lie as free speech. This would enable corporations to lie about their products and lie with impunity about safety or efficacy of their product. And for individuals to demonize those who are different & vulnerable.

A similar movement is occurring in Canada.

In the US, specialized law firms systematically attacked college campuses to enable hate speech. Why? To indoctrinate students. Young adults are vulnerable to hate narratives, & to ideological shifts through targeted indoctrination.

US campuses are now inundated with far right propaganda, Christian anti-abortion rallies using disturbing graphic images and religious freedom allowing presenters and students the ability to foment hatred towards various peoples, religions and gender identities.

That’s what UCP is bringing to Canadian university and college campuses. Religious freedom to discriminate using the bible and faith as a defence, to promote far right consequentialist libertarian ideology and to allow Christian ministry to students. And to silence dissent.

This is what’s meant by free speech when referred to by conservatives. It’s the ability to freely use hate speech to indoctrinate and change the nation’s & society’s ethos.

Ford and Ontario conservatives have already legislated this change. Universities and colleges don’t qualify for provincial funding unless they agree to allow free hate speech on campus, anywhere and anytime.

John Carpay is a close friend & associate of Jason Kenney. Carpay compared a rainbow flag to a Nazi swastika. Kenney refused to expel him from the UCP membership.

Why? Carpay is one of the lawyers heading a specialized firm that systematically forces hate speech on campuses.

Carpay has been working on this initiative for quite some time. JCCF have categorized every campus in Canada and identified the barriers to hate speech. And now they are systematically changing all barriers. All documented here on a public website: campusfreedomindex.ca

This is what Albertans elected in April. Far right Dominionist Christian ideologues intent on eliminating dissent and indoctrinating the next generation with their ideology and dogma.

Thus, confirming, Kenney is not any different from Ford.

He intends to implement the same devastating cuts and lower taxes as Ford has done in Ontario. It’s why Ford is on a legislature break until October, and why Kenney won’t release a budget before the federal election. It may damage Scheer’s chance at a majority win.

Though created and dedicated to the exchange of ideas, facts and knowledge, UCP is removing that function and turning post secondary institutions into indoctrination factories; to train & ideologically alter the next & all subsequent generations of young adults.

Thereby ensuring a majority voting base for the guided democracy and ordered liberty Canadian Conservatives, and CPC intends to install in Canada if they win the October 2019 election.

Welcome to dystopia, Alberta style.

But these changes are not just scheduled for Alberta. These changes will be implemented across the nation if Scheer and CPC win a majority. Remember, conservatives have 7 provinces now led by Right Wing governments.

As an educator & an academic, I’m hopeful you’ll share this info with your colleagues. Perhaps even push back, en masse, before it’s too late and Canada becomes a Guided Democracy with Ordered Liberty as the hitching post we are tethered to, determining social policy & economics.
