The date of the election depends on whether the government initiates the vote, or if it comes from a no confidence vote.
But according to the Parliament website, the earliest possible date for a general election is now October 24th.
And the Tories will have to ask for an extension to cover that. They wouldn't dare fight an election on an imminent no deal Brexit.
We talked about knowing things without official announcement, and what we know since yesterday is this:

This government can no longer survive. The election will force them to ask for an extension. And at least one party we know of will offer a second referendum.
The future is out of government hands and back in ours.
If we want to stay in the European Union we will now have a chance to vote for it.
