Yesterday the Brexit Party announced the names of their parliamentary candidates, so I thought I’d have a quick look.

I’m afraid it’s bad news.

2/ Meet John Booker, an ex-UKIP councillor from Sheffield. You’d think the @brexitparty_uk might do some social media vetting of their candidates, but apparently not...

3/ They seem to have missed his sharing of Islamophobic posts like this one:
4/ ...and also missed his ‘likes’ on racially abusive comments aimed at @MagicMagid:
5/ He liked a comment that warned against a Muslim “takeover”, with them “slowly getting people into powerful positions”
6/ He liked a comment that seems to call for violent action against Islam/Muslims.
7/ If the Brexit Party truly intends to be “intolerant of intolerance” it needs to withdraw this candidate immediately, and be far more thorough in vetting the remaining 600+ candidates still to be announced.

Imagine that. We could have a Prime Minister who once inquired as to exactly how violent a crime he was getting himself involved in, and it’s not even mentioned in most discussion about him:
I’m pretty sure that any working class person who conspired with a criminal to get a journalist beaten up would be considered a gangster on that event alone. Why don’t normal rules apply to @BorisJohnson?

A man followed me into @asda , being racist + threatening me with physical violence + that he was going to punch me. Yesterday 13th July '19 @ Peckham, h'st. He followed me through the front of the store, into the first aisle where people just stared and did nothing. Thread
I thought he would stop when I didn’t entertain him but he continued to threaten me and use various asian slurs - I’m Chinese. He called me a filthy mongoloid, I’ll let you come up with all the other asian slurs. It was clear I wasn’t with him and on my own.
I tried to lead him to the centre, at the front of the store seeking help. I was by the self-service and main till, entrance and it was busy (Saturday). The staff, the customers and the managers watched this and NO ONE came to help me. @Asda, @metpoliceuk @EveningStandard

2/ Editor & co-founder of Westmonster, Michael Heaver, is standing for the Brexit Party in the European parliamentary elections. In the article announcing his candidacy, there was no mention of Heaver stepping away from the website for the campaign period. #SFFN
3/ We’re not here to comment on the suitability of someone who runs a fake news website to be an elected parliamentarian, but voters might be interested to know about the company Heaver keeps #SFFN

#Thread 1/ Today's a day when I think a lot of people are going to be discussing and critiquing #journalism Since I've been teaching the subject for quite some time now, here's some things I tell my students about their relationships to public officials.
2/ The first rule of #journalism, even in the @spj_tweets code of ethics, is to "seek truth and report it." Sources of truth don't always want it shared. Everyone wants to look good, and when people have chosen to do bad things, they don't want you to expose them.
3/ A side #ProTip for newsmakers: The best way to avoid unfavorable coverage is to not do bad things. It's not 100%, but it works a lot better than other shenanigans you try.

THREAD: The myth of the soft Brexit majority.

A majority in this parliament needs to get to 320. It's been repeated so often that it has become a truth—that there is a majority for a soft Brexit in parliament.

Here's why that's almost certainly not the case.

Let's start with the Labour Party (245 MPs).

Soft Brexit is the position of the leadership (see JC letter to TM 6/2).

But there are at least 60 strong backers of a people's vote in the PLP & maybe 5 who want a harder Brexit.

So Labour brings max 180 MPs to soft Brexit.

What would the SNP do?

Well, Scotland voted to Remain, and yesterday Sturgeon said: "preferably asking for a longer extension to put the issue back to voters".

So don't count on any SNP support for soft Brexit

Maria birthed 3 beautiful girls, two of whom are twins. Maria has struggled all her life but she's always wanted her babies to get an education even though she didn't have such privilege. Thankfully, she got married to a hardworking man who also has the same belief.
Maria sells cheap biscuits and candies on the road at Eko Idumota. These goods are placed in a small tray, while she alternates between sitting and standing to attract customers, at the end of the day, Maria may turn over N2,000

I’ll start off with saying that this really isn’t looking great for the Shadow Cabinet… So for the faint of heart or easily enraged, look away now. 1/
Across ~2000 news headlines on #Brexit since Jan 18, there were 463 references to Conservative Cabinet ministers, and just 48 for their Shadow counterparts.

In other words, 91% of news headline references to Cabinet-level MPs were to Government politicians. 2/
