Add one more fact: Instrument of Accession was a legal provision made applicable through Govt of India Act, 1935. Each of the 562 Princely States signed the same document. All of them later signed an Instrument of Merger, except J&K. That’s why 370. Now, J&K also stands merged.
(2/n) When did the exercise of securing the accession start? After 6 June 1947, when the Partition Plan was announced by Mountbatten in great haste, as he was keen to get Britain out of India.
(3/n) A provision for accession existed in the Govt of India Act, 1947, which was made use of by Patel, who managed to get every Princely State on board by 15th August except Hyderabad and J&K. Junagadh signed accession to Pakistan.

Kashmir : 69 Lakhs. (Only 55 Lakhs speak Kashmiri. Rest 13 lakhs speak Non kashmiri languages.)
Jammu :53 Lakhs.
(Dogri, Punjabi, Hindi)
Ladakh : 03 Lakhs. (Ladakhi language)
This does not include 7.5 lakh people settled who do not have citizenship
There are 22 districts in J& K. Out of which only 5 Districts where separatists have the say ;
Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramullah, Kulgam and Pulwama.
Other 17 districts are Pro India.
So separatist''s writ runs in just 15% of the population which are Sunni Muslim dominated.

The brave Brigadier had stoically accepted the role of Governor on 1st August 1947 despite the known dangers of this position. #DograHistory #JK
When Pakistani raiders attacked J&K in Oct 1947, Major Brown and #Gilgit Scouts which he commanded, rose in revolt. More than a 1000 men surrounded the Governor’s house and Brigadier Ghansara Singh along with his men, including the driver and attendant put up a brave fight.
Raja Sultan Abdul Hamid DSP of Gilgit Baltistan joined Major Brown in his treachery and lead the Gilgit Police to the Governor’s house. Brig Ghansara Singh surrendered only after Maj Brown gave an ultimatum that all non Muslims in Gilgit Agency would be killed.

Breaking: Large terrorist attack in #India. More than 40 Indian Reserve Police Force personnel were killed and many others injured when Pakistani backed terrorists targeted a convoy with a car bomb at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir's today, ndtv.com/india-news/15-…
Reports suggested that the vehicle used by the terrorists was a Mahindra Scorpio carrying more than 350 kg of explosives in what is the worst attack ever on security personnel in the state.
Sources said that terrorists triggered the car bomb while 78 vehicles with over 2,500 reserve police men were on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The stretch on which the incident occurred had been sanitized in the morning & authorities called it a serious breach of security.
