Wanted to make a separate thread on TV’s portrayal of how Kashmiri Pandits have reacted to decision on Kashmir. First day a handful of them were shown dancing and distributing sweets.
Then career opportunists among KPs like Dr U Kaul (personal physician of Yasin Malik) and Air V Marshal Kapil Kak (who calls Geelani his father) were invited, who said circumstances of 1990 KP exodus are debatable. Shame on them!
The truth is most KPs have very cordial relationship with their erstwhile neighbours. KPs are happy about 370 abrogation. There is bitterness. But KPs do not wish KMs genocide.
We want to return. We miss Kashmir Our lives are elsewhere. We have nothing left in Kashmir. But when cinema halls, coffee houses open, when there is religious freedom, when schools not influenced by Salafism open, we’d like to return.
One of the first things that terrorists targeted in Kashmir Valley was its coffee house. It used to have a special table which was famously called the “Security Council”. Coffee-house veterans, who read Camus and wrote poetry, and who would debate endlessly, occupied this table
Let us hope that when Kashmir stabilises and when terrorism is defeated, this coffee house will be rebuilt. The foundation of New Kashmir will be built here.
