THREAD: You won't see a #CitizenshipQuestion on the #2020Census, but there are *other* @uscensusbureau forms that ask whether a person is a U.S. citizen. That’s caused a lot of confusion. Let me walk you through some of those other citizenship questions👇

2. These surveys predate Trump admin’s failed attempt to add a #CitizenshipQuestion to the U.S. census, which, by the way, has never *directly* asked for the U.S. citizenship status of every person living in every household in the country👇

3. Unlike the census, these @uscensusbureau surveys collect responses to a citizenship question from a *sample* of households & don’t impact how congressional seats & Electoral College votes are divided up among the states.

4. From June 13 to Aug. 15, the @uscensusbureau is conducting the “2019 Census Test” to gauge public reaction to a #CitizenshipQuestion on the census. About a half-million households were randomly selected to complete test forms — half of which include this question👇

5. Bureau had intended to proceed w “2019 Census Test” regardless of how courts ruled on #CitizenshipQuestion, which is now permanently blocked from #2020Census. Responses can help inform any officials who may want to add the question to a future census👇

6. Since 2005, @uscensusbureau has collected citizenship information from a sample of US households through the American Community Survey. Currently, bureau collects responses to this question from about one in 38 households throughout the year to help enforce Voting Rights Act👇

7. The Current Population Survey is conducted every month in person or over the phone with around 60,000 households. @uscensusbureau says survey asks these questions to generate "more accurate statistics regarding the labor force supply and demand”👇
