It goes to show you just how completely white Americans have scapegoated white Southerners for racism. This attitude also proves that too many people in this country are unable to recognize the more subtle forms white supremacy often takes...

I have time and I'm feeling generous so I'll list some more subtle manifestations of this ideology. Please feel free to add...

#youreawhitesupremacist if you deliberately avoid restaurants, shopping malls, parks, or any other public space utilized primarily by POC.

If you STILL believe that Barack Obama was born in Kenya, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist. You're also a white supremacist if you didn't raise similar concerns about John McCain's citizenship status. (McCain was born in Panama.)

If you believe that #MichaelBrown deserved to be shot and killed by the police five years ago today because he MIGHT HAVE stolen some cigarettes earlier that day, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

And if you can rationalize NYPD choking Eric Garner to death over him selling untaxed cigarettes with "if he had only followed the law," #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

If you actually believe that white people would respect black people more if they "pulled their pants up," spoke "proper" English, got jobs, stopped listening to hip-hop, and raised their kids right, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

If you refuse to believe that law enforcement has a long history of using excessive force against POC, despite all evidence to the contrary, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

If you think African-American Vernacular English (AAVE, aka "Ebonics") is "bad English," "sloppy English" or slang rather than the dialect that linguists agree that it is, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

#YoureAWhiteSupremacist if you resent hearing foreign languages spoken in America.

If you date/sleep with a POC but would never marry them bc you don't wanted "mixed kids," then #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

If you refuse to believe that mixed-race black people identify as black due the "one-stop rule" that white people made up #YoureAWhiteSupremacist.

If you sleep with POC because you buy into stereotypes about their sexual behavior, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

This is for white supremacist white women specifically:

If you believe that your POC partner prefers white women because white women are "prettier", "smarter," or "easier to deal with" than women of your partner's racial/ethnic group, then #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

This is for white supremacist men specifically:

If you refuse to date a white woman bc she previously dated/was married to a man of color, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

Another one for white supremacist white women:

If you find out that an attractive white man is dating/married to a woman of color and your first thought is, "what's he doing with her?", then #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

Another one for white supremacist men:

If you think that any white woman who resists white supremacy, racism, and white privilege bc she wants to/actually is sleeping with men of color, #YoureAWhiteSupremacist

Last one for the night:

If you actually believe that expressing the opinion that POC are somehow less than human should be protected by the 1st amendment but get all butt-hurt when POC (correctly) use the term "racist", then #YoureAWhiteSupremacist
