NH Gov. Sununu just vetoed a bipartisan independent redistricting proposal. Yes, the one that passed the NH Senate unanimously.

Federal Courts will not police partisan gerrymandering. Roberts pointed to policy changes as the solution. Democrats and Republicans in New Hampshire's legislature stepped up and passed a good, fair bill.

Sununu just axed that effort.
Why? I have my speculations.

But the 'why' isn't even that relevant.

The veto is ill conceived to put it mildly. Even if unswayed by the principle of the matter, independent redistricting in the current political climate is a benefit to Republicans in NH.
The next step is pushing for a veto override. It's not an easy task, but the bill passed both chambers with a lot of support. Close to the necessary 2/3 supermajority.

Time to light up those phones, folks.
