Students of Indian cricket are no doubt aware of the 4 great spinners of the 1960s-70s (Bedi, Prasanna, Chandra, Venkat)

But the same era saw 3 other spinners - legends yet hardly played a test

FC averages

Padmakar Shivalkar: 19.7
VV Kumar: 19.9
Rajinder Goel: 18.6
Shivalkar and Goel were left-armers kept out by Bedi

VV Kumar was an orthodox leg spinner kept out by the less orthodox Chandrashekhar

Why are Guyana and Jamaica so v poor among all Caribbean islands?

And why is Trinidad so rich?

Excluding Haiti/Cuba as they're outliers with exceptional histories

Interesting how countries with similar geographic situation and racial make-up can have vastly different outcomes
Of course I am using the word "poor" in a relative sense

Both Guyana and Jamaica have higher PCIs compared to say India which is still at $7200 or thereabouts
It's interesting that Barbados was much richer than Trinidad 30 years ago!

Curious if there has been an attempt within Pakistan among its "liberals" and secularists to construct a secular narrative supporting Pakistan's existence?

Maybe stressing on its "mleCCha" proximity angle, and on how it was "insufficiently Hindu" even before 700CE?

Pakistan was conceived from the start as the homeland for South Asian Muslims

Though some of its founders like Qaid e Azam were not overtly religious, their political reasoning was anything but secular
But then it so happened that India has just as many Muslims as Pakistan, and the situation has been managed by the Indian state without a great deal of trouble, excepting Kashmir

Whereas Pakistan lost half its population to Bengali nationalism within 25 years of its formation

Whenever there is discussion of the need for "demographic diversity" in the Kashmir valley, the liberal reaction is one of consternation

As though one has mentioned something unmentionable

But free mobility of labor and cultural interchange is a pre-requisite for a nation
You cannot call yourself a nation if people cannot freely move from one region to another in search of jobs, missions, profit, among other things

The implicit assumption is - the nation has a shared bond that can withstand regional peculiarities of culture
While coercion is never advocated to drive demographic change, one should welcome free movement of peoples

This is not something unprecedented

India is a "nation" precisely because it has been a land with free movement of people and ideas for 2000+ yrs

Lots of comments about how long games take and how much of a day it takes up. This can be a huge positive of cricket! Spending the day with your mates in the sun playing sport is brilliant!
Cricket is one of a few team sports where you as an individual can really impact on a game scoring hundreds or taking 5fers can turn a game on its head and you as an individual can cause that

#Breaking - Some defense sources report #Indian air strikes across the Line of Control in Muzafarabad, #Pakistan. Indian air force briefing expected later today. Pakistan said Indian jets dropped their payloads & "fled". More confirmation of details needed.
There are also reports of dual, air and ground Indian strikes in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir. No official word yet. Waiting for updates. Stay tuned.
There are also reports that 2 Pakistani JF-17s fighter jets have been shot down.
