@DrUlrichKuehn @AxelFunhoff @alxgraef It’s Nato membership plus presence of US force on the territory. The formula that worked so well for W Germany during the Cold War, because it was both, a promise and a commitment in risk-sharing. /1
@DrUlrichKuehn @AxelFunhoff @alxgraef With a Russian President who unfortunately is determined to replay Cold War, and a Russia that is only a superpower with regard to nukes, the West is forced to accept the game to a certain extent. /2
@DrUlrichKuehn @AxelFunhoff @alxgraef It’s very understandable that Poland now wants the same guarantees W Germany once had. Germany should understand and sit down with Poland and US and JOINTLY discuss these issues. /3
@DrUlrichKuehn @AxelFunhoff @alxgraef Poland and the US are key partners for Germany. Polish security is German security as well: there was a reason why Germany pushed for Poland’s Nato membership in the 1990s. German and Polish security are indivisible. /4
@DrUlrichKuehn @AxelFunhoff @alxgraef It’s very unfortunate if both are in competition for US bases. Like adults both should recognize and respect the others interests and look for innovative ways to strengthen Polish security; with a bigger German contribution to Polish security. /5
