Though initially reported as "good guy with a gun stops massacre", the heavily armed man may not have done anything illegal as he had open carry permit. This case will be fascinating to watch as it raises so many questions about open carry laws.

(1) He’s charged with making a terrorist threat. The prosecutor draws analogy that 1st Amendment doesn’t allow shouting fire in a theater. But how will the courts draw the line between what open carry is “reckless and criminal manner” and what is free expression of 2nd Amendment.
(2) Instead of saving a massacre, the fireman arguably prevented someone from exercising his 2nd Amendment rights. Will the NRA come out in support of the guy walking around WalMart heavily armed in bulletproof vest and criticize the fireman?
(3) What would have happened had the fireman proactively shot the armed man, thinking he was preventing a massacre. Would the fireman be charged with murder for shooting an innocent person who was merely exercising his 2nd Amendment rights?
(4) How can open carry laws work in practice in a time when people are scared about random mass shootings? Regardless of one's view on guns, having people walking around stores with bulletproof vests and machine guns is not a stable equilibrium.
