Only in Britain could an organisation like the Moorland Association blithely claim that the systemic burning of an ecosystem and elimination of the great majorty of plants and animals that would otherwise live there is good for wildlife. #DrivenGrouseShooting
Anywhere else in the world, people would immediately recognise this strip-burnt landscape for the ecological disaster zone it is:
But here we have been told so often and so loudly that cutting, burning and grazing are good for wildlife that many people can no longer tell the difference between conservation and destruction. The propaganda has been highly effective.
A typical British landscape, that you can see in national parks everywhere, from Exmoor to the Brecon Beacons, Peak District to the North York Moors, Lake District to the Cairngorms.
Except it's deforested hills in Madagascar.
We recognise destruction abroad. Why not at home?
Here's what the Moorland Association says about its sterling work, burning the hills to keep our deforested land deforested.
Imagine how awful it would be if the trees came back.
