A person I trust a great deal raised concerns about #AltGovCares, and their thoughts have merit. Keeping my followers’ trust is important to me (if I have it now.) I’m interested in what you think. Please vote for one of these, and add any other thoughts below. #AltGovCares
The idea behind #AltGovCares is for Alt accounts to pick one charity each, and put a branded tee shirt (or similar swag) for sale on a site that sends all money directly to the selected charities
A number of concerns were raised, but in short, many of our followers see us as enigmas, and aren’t really sure whether we’re trustworthy or not. (And that likely varies by account)
Even though we say that no money will ever go to us, and that can be verified by @TeeSpring, ANY ask for money could give the appearance that we’re just trying to “cash in” so to speak
Appearance can be as important as reality. Even uncertainty of that sort could be enough to alienate people who were already unsure of us
While I like the idea of helping to raise money for charity, I do share some of the same worries. Our core fans will continue to trust (at least some of) us, and will probably be excited about the possibility of getting swag while helping a charity that is close to our hearts
(For example, I love my @RogueNASA shirt that helped to fund kids going to a space camp.)
But I am concerned about how the majority of you who don’t know what to think of us see the ideas. If you see tee shirts with our avatars for sale, does that turn you off, regardless of where the proceeds go?
Please chime in with your honest opinions and let me know how you feel. My shirt is in the works, but if it comes down to a choice between joining the charity drive and keeping your trust, your trust comes first
